We are John and Crystal Schouten. We met in Kanab and were married in Southern Utah. We enjoy hiking on red rocks, driving on dirt roads, exploring the desert, and fishing with our 3 kids. Crystal grew up in the area and has always loved hiking slot-canyons, and riding ATV's. John mostly grew up in Southern California, but loved the idea of living in a small town, and has always gone out of his way to explore places that most people don't get to see. He likes taking his self modified 1985 Jimmy on dirt roads wondering if it will get stuck this time or taking his Harley on drives just to see the views.
Opening Kanab Suites in August 2019 was an extensive project for our family. The previous building had to be torn down and our hotel was built on the foundation. We currently have 2 employees: John and me. John is our Housekeeper, Laundry, Maintenance, Landscaper, and does most of the manual labor on the property. He even built the headboard and entertainment center in each of the rooms. I occasionally help John with housekeeping, but mostly I stay at home taking care of our 3 kids all under the age of 6. I am also the "front office" part of the hotel as well as doing the accounting and anything else that involves computer work or phone calls. (Sorry if you hear a kid crying in the background when you call. Life happens).
We do our best to work as a team both at work and at home. Please enjoy your stay at Kanab Suites.
